A New Britain man is facing charges after officials said he was harboring a missing 12-year-old girl.

According to authorities, in Oct. 2018, it was first reported that 21-year-old Carlos Padilla was keeping the girl at his residence.

The child was located by police several days later at the home.

On Monday, Padilla was charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a child.

Police said further investigation revealed that Padilla and the victim were engaged in a sexual relationship for several months prior to when she was reported as missing.

Padilla is currently incarcerated and was arraigned on Monday.
