Plenty of snow at Mount Southington despite mild temperatures

Hartford

The ski areas took a hit Saturday, but not for the reason you might think.

They want everyone to know despite the 50 degree weather and sunny skies, they’ve got snow!

In fact, they say it’s perfect weather to get outside and on the slopes. They say they’ve been taking advantage of every single night that dropped below freezing.

When’s it’s between 17 to 30 degrees they are making snow.
In fact, it’s been so cold they’ve been able to make so much snow and opened two weeks early this year.

But when people see fifties in the forecast and no snow outside their window, they forget that’s not the case at Mount Southington.

“When it gets warm, people don’t think that we have snow because we have such an awesome snowmaking team. We’ve been able to take advantage of every cold night making a ton of snow”, said Duane Bass, General Manager of Mount Southington.

In fact they’ll be making snow tonight. It’s projected to be 27 degrees.
So no shortage here.
Especially because 2019 looks like it’s going to start chilly.
