15-year-old taken to hospital after being shot by father, Hartford police say

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A 15-year-old boy is in the hospital after police said he was shot by his father Monday morning.

Just after 5:45 a.m. on Monday, Hartford police were called to the south end of the city after reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found the teen suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical yet stable condition.

Police said the boy was shot by his father. The events that led up to the shooting are unknown at this time.

The man was taken into custody on scene without incident. He is preliminarily charged with criminal possession of a firearm, risk of injury to a minor, unlawful discharge of a firearm, theft of a firearm, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

No further information was released.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions responded and assumed the investigation. Those with information are asked to call 860-722-TIPS (8477).
