It happened over the weekend on the Silas Deane Highway.
Police said they stopped the car for a traffic violation and the vehicle took off driving at a police officer on foot.
Family, friends and community members came together at the Wethersfield Police Department wanting to see video. They wanted answers, something they will have to wait until the investigation runs its course.
In the meantime, Davon Colon, a high school senior and nephew of the man shot behind the wheel, said real change needs to happen.
“There’s a lot of parents that are here today, and you know what we should tell her children? How to deal with cops. We can’t run from the police, we cannot. Even if we are scared we have to stop! I am a 17-year-old man. My uncle, Anthony Vega, 18 years old, a year older than me. That could happen to anyone at any time, any time! And we can try to prevent it by stopping and putting your hands on the wheel. Putting your hands on the wheel! We need to come together as a community and we need to get rid of all of this!” Colon stated.
Colon said the police can do better, the community can do better, and they need to come together like a family to solve the problem together.
