Senator Blumenthal calling for independent certification of 737 Max planes

Hartford

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal will appear at Bradley Airport Monday afternoon and will demand an independent certification of airworthiness before Boeing 737 Max planes fly again.

Senator Blumenthal says the planes that crashed in Indonesia and Ethiopia were not equipped with safety features that could have helped pilots avoid the deadly crashes.

Blumenthal is set to propose legislation that would make all safety-critical equipment standard. He also wants an independent authority to certify the planes are safe before they start flying with passengers again. 

Senator Blumenthal is set to speak at 12 p.m. on Monday at Bradley Airport
