HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – One person is dead after a tractor-trailer crash Tuesday morning on Route 15 in Hartford, according to state police.
State police identified the victim as 77-year-old Douglas Arotsky from East Northport, NY.
Officials said Troop H Troopers responded to the crash around 12:27 a.m. on Route 15 Southbound at Exit 86.
Police said that the first vehicle, a tractor-trailer, was traveling in the exit 86 deceleration lane and the second vehicle, a Toyota RAV4, was traveling in the right lane, to the left of the tractor-trailer.
For an unknown reason, state police said that the Toyota went across the exit gore and crashed into the attenuator. The car then entered the deceleration lane and crashed into the tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer came to a controlled final rest in the travel lane of exit 86 and the right shoulder, officials said. State police said the driver was not injured and declined medical attention.
The Toyota came to an uncontrolled final rest in the travel lane. Officials pronounced the driver dead at the scene, state police said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to disabling damage, officials said.
