Yard Goats, Rockies visit Connecticut Children’s patients

Hartford

The Hartford Yard Goats visited patients at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Thursday, with some help from their parent club, the Colorado Rockies

“It’s awesome, coming to see these kids,” said Yard Goats pitcher Rico Garcia. “It makes their day.”

Garcia and fellow pitcher Jack Wynkoop, along with Yard Goats mascot Chompers, were joined by Rockies owner Dick Monfort and mascot Dinger. Representatives from the Rockies, parent club of Double-A Yard Goats, spent Thursday in Hartford before heading to Philadelphia.

“Baseball in my mind is all about kids,” said Rockies owner Dick Monfort. “It’s heart-wrenching to go to these places but it’s nice to make a few kids smile.”

“It’s just the greatest thing we can do,” said Garcia. “These kids are fighting a bigger battle than we are and it’s just a great reminder to see the bigger picture.”
