Committee passes bill to designate pizza as CT State Food; moves to House

Connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The tastiest bill of Wednesday’s legislative session in Hartford: Lawmakers serving up House Bill 5656 – An Act Designating Pizza As The State Food.

Lawmakers in the Government Administration and Elections Committee unanimously passed the ‘pie measure.’ But they all bit their tongues on which slice was their favorite.

New Haven lawmakers are pushing the bill to highlight the elm city’s pizza history.

Some neighboring states have scoffed at the idea, with some New York and New Jersey officials tweeting that pizza is bigger there than here.

The pizza bill now heads to the state House.

Lawmakers said they were willing to consider donuts as the state breakfast food should that bill ever come up.
