6 people taken to hospital after fire breaks out in New Milford home

Fire officials are investigating a house fire in New Milford that sent six people to the hospital early Thursday morning.

Police say that just after 2 a.m., fire crews responded to a 911 call of a house fire at 101 Housatonic Avenue. The New Milford Fire Department asked for mutual aid.

Upon arrival, the Water Witch Hose Co., along with the Northville Fire Department, Gaylordsville Fire Department and Brookfield Fire Department, found the three story, wood, multi-family home to be fully engulfed in flames.

Fire officials say that 11 residents lived in the four apartments inside of the house, with three residents on the top floor and eight living on the first floor.

Two of the residents were taken to Danbury Hospital and four others were taken to New Milford Hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns. None of their injuries are reported to be life threatening.

The fire is being investigated by the local and State Fire Marshal’s Office at this time.

Officials said there were smoke detectors in the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
