Lt. Governor Bysiewicz hosts 100th birthday celebration for first woman elected governor in CT


Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz hosted a 100th birthday celebration on Friday in Hartford celebration for the late Ella Grasso

Grasso was the first woman in the U.S. to be elected governor, and she did it right here in Connecticut

Grasso was born in 1919 and served as governor from 1975 until 1980.

Lawmakers who knew her and knew of her attended the tribute, along with special guest speakers including Grasso’s family, friends, and coworkers.

Grasso’s hometown of Windsor Locks has declared 2019 the “Year of Ella”.
