24-hour bike ride benefits camp for intellectually disabled

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — Area motorcyclists are spending a lot of time on their bikes this weekend to benefit Middlefield’s John J. Nerden Camp, which provides free programs for children and adults who are intellectually disabled.

“It benefits children and adults with special needs,” said Dino Pandolfo of the Meriden Motorcycle Club. “It’s a free camp and it’s open for seven weeks during the summer.”

“We’re out here for a good cause and to also have some fun,” said Jeff LaChance of East Hampton.

The Meriden Motorcycle Club hosted the event, taking to the roads for a continuous 12 hours. At the same time, a different group of bikes went through trails in the woods for 12 hours.

“So that’s combined 24 hours of riding,” said Pandolfo.

Each rider gave 25 dollars for the cause, which took off from Stantack Road in Middletown.
