Arrigoni Bridge on Route 66 in Middletown reopens after motor vehicle accident


Connecticut DOT reported the Arrigoni Bridge on Route 66 in Middletown was closed both ways due to a car accident Wednesday evening.

The bridge has since reopened.

According to the Middletown Police Department, a Middletown police officer initiated a motor vehicle stop on a white Mercedes Benz for a traffic violation of Main Street at Hartford Avenue. 

Police say as the officer approached the Mercedez Benz, the driver acknowledged the officer and fled the scene toward Arrigoni Bridge. 

The Middletown officer began a pursuit, and found the Mercedez Benz involved in a 3-car motor vehicle accident. All three vehicles were severely damage according to police.  All drivers were transported to area hospitals for treatment. 

The accident is still under investigation.
