Middletown police are conducting an internal investigation into a sergeant’s posts on social media.

According to officials, the chief directed the Middletown Police Department’s Professional Standards Division/Internal Fairs Unit to investigate Sgt. Sebastian Bartolotta’s posts to “determine whether he violated any of the department’s rules, standards of conduct, or general orders.”

In a statement, the police said, in part, “…we want to reiterate that Sgt. Bartolotta’s posts are not indicative of how the men and women of the Middletown Police Department interact with the public…”

It is not known what the posts entailed in terms of content.
