Middletown police are searching for a suspect in a shooting incident on Long Lane Thursday afternoon.
Officers said the shooting took place just after 12 noon. Police responded to a report of a person shot in the face. The suspect fled from the scene before police arrived.
As a safety precaution, Middletown schools were secured during the incident. All schools have since been released.
Brendon Mayhew never imagined his front yard would become a crime scene.
“He got shot in the face and he ran from all the way over there all the way down through here. I heard the noise, I didn’t know what it was, I thought it was construction.”
A man shot in the face in a family’s backyard on Long Lane – running through several yards before collapsing in the road – right in front of the Mayhew’s home – leaving behind a trail of blood.
“My wife saw him, clear as day, laying there. Got blood all over there, all over my kids picnic table. I just saw the cruisers just flying by, but as they were going by – sounded like they were going further. I look around the corner and I just see everybody and I see everything.”
Police say their suspect – 22-year-old Kyshone Jackson’s Junior – is well known to them and the victim. He has two pending court cases in Middletown – involving the possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Police calling him armed and dangerous.
Detectives spending Thursday combing through trash cans – gathering evidence – and taking pictures at the scene of the crime while collecting samples.
Schools in Middletown securing all of their entrances and upping patrols in the area.
“The younger kids, the elementary school, they actually had police officers.”
Some students actually escorted home. Families wanting to feel safe again in their own neighborhood.
“If this happens again, believe me, I’ll be out, I have four little kids in there.”
The victim was found lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the face, officers said. The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. The extent of the victim’s injuries are unclear.
Police identified 22-year-old Kyshone Jackson Junior as a suspect in the shooting. Officers said Jackson and the victim knew each other before the shooting took place, and that this shooting is an isolated incident.
Jackson should be considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a black man, standing 6-feet tall, and weighing 140 pounds.
The area of Long Lane and Santangelo Circle was blocked off to the public, but police have cleared the scene. Units are still looking for Jackson.
Officers added that there is no known threat to the public at this time.
