New Haven letter carriers receive National Safety Council’s Million Mile award

Connecticut

The Postal Service is recognizing some local letter carriers who have been doing things the right way for a very long time.

A big ceremony was held at the main post office in New Haven on Friday morning.

Forty letter carriers recognized with the National Safety Council’s Million Mile award. All of the honorees have been on the job for at least 30 years and logged at least one million miles without having a preventable accident.

“You have a lot of adversity out there, there’s a lot of agressing driving out there, we are out there everday with Amazon delivery, we’re out there seven days a week so this is a very difficult task to do,” said Bill Demusis, Driving Safety Instructor.

“‘Being in a city environment like this for example, we had a snowstorm on MOnday with 10 inches of snow, now kids are out there, so we’re hyper sensative. we practice defensive driving. devensive driving is key,” said Tom Sullivan, Postmaster.

Those drivers say they are really looking forward to the springtime and the better weather when conditions on the roads get a little less challenging.
