Branford house fire under investigation

New Haven

Emergency crews in Branford responded to a major structure fire at 297 A Lavassa Terrace on Saturday.

Officials said no one was home when the blaze broke out at the house.

Neighbors stated that it was frightening to see the flames engulf the building.

Fire Chief Tom Mahoney said weather was on their side and helped keep the flames from spreading to other homes.

“Actually, the weather, in a rare instance, helped us tonight because the wind blowing the fire away offshore,” Chief Tom Mahoney stated.

“This was like a movie, except it was real and it’s traumatizing,” neighbor Robert Lewis added.

The Branford Fire Department has confirmed there were no injuries.

Regional Water Authority had to increase the water pressure for crews to be able to control the fire.
