NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police are investigating after a 55-year-old woman was the victim of a deadly pedestrian crash Thursday night.

Police said just after 5:30 p.m. the woman was walking northbound across Chapel Street when she was hit by a FedEx truck.

The truck then entered the intersection and turned right onto Temple Street.

The truck, operated by a 31-year-old Bridgeport man, continued to travel on Temple Street. Officers located the truck on George Street. The truck operator is cooperating with the investigation.

At the crash scene, emergency medical responders pronounced the pedestrian deceased.

During the investigation, the intersection was closed for several hours. The streets have since been reopened.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

FedEx released a statement Friday saying: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family for the loss of their loved one in this accident. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement at this time.”

Witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at (203) 946-6316.
