Christmas decorations stolen in West Haven

New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Holiday decorations have been stolen from people’s yards in West Haven. At least one home on Richards Street was targeted. Some residents are now warning people across the city to be careful.

Spencer Ludington had a laser light projector near the flagpole in his front yard. It would cover the front of his house in red and green lights.

“The other morning I got up for work and came to the front of the house because it wasn’t shining through the windows and noticed that someone had pulled it right out of the ground,” said Ludington.

Someone had stolen it in the middle of the night. He didn’t call the police but he says a Grinch has targeted his yard before. However, he is not letting that dampen his holiday spirit.

“We needed something else so we went out and bought a 9-foot minion,” said Ludington.

He had more inflatable holiday decorations in the past, but vandals slashed them.

“We don’t want to stop putting things out because it is the Christmas season,” said Ludington. “We have kids. We want it there for them and it’s just terrible that people go around and do this.”

Theft is something that many people who decorate their homes for the holidays are concerned about. Meanwhile, across West Haven, John Jaser was setting up his new laser light projector on Wednesday evening. He had just bought it, and he was hoping the decorations in front of his house will be safe.

“It’s sad people have to stoop to that level to ruin someone else’s decorations and their Christmas spirit,” said Jaser.

Neighbors are still in the holiday spirit and making sure their families can enjoy the holiday decorations. Ludington had a message for the thief who took his.

“Most of the time people that put lights and decorations out are people that have kids,” said Ludington. “We end up angry but the kids end up sad.”

Ludington is making sure his property is protected from now on. He installed a camera at the front of his house.
