MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — A body was found in Long Meadow Pond Sunday morning in the area where a kayaker went missing Saturday, according to fire officials.

Middlebury Fire Chief Brett Kales confirmed to News 8, the body found was that of the kayaker that went missing.

CT DEEP identified the kayaker as Brian Saucier, 26, of Prospect. DEEP released an update on Saucier’s age after previous reporting stated he was 27-years-old.

Fire officials said they received the call at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday on the report of an overturned kayak.

Connecticut State Police, Middlebury fire crews, and dive teams were searching for a missing male kayaker at Long Meadow Pond.

Region 5 and Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue (NUSAR) dive teams assisted in the search. The search was called off around 9 p.m.

The State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
