Deadly New Haven shooting caught on video, police identify victim

New Haven

There is disturbing new video showing the moment a New Haven man walking along Congress Avenue was shot to death.

In the video, you can see the victim, later identified as 28-year-old Thomas Hart, previously of Milford, in a white t-shirt looking over his shoulder while running for his life.

The man then collapses at the corner of Redfield Street. It all happened within eyesight of a school and police substation.

“It needs to stop because I got a son that play out here everyday and I don’t want a stray bullet for my son,” said neighbor Richard Harris.

Detectives said they’re unsure if the killing is in retaliation for a separate shooting on the same block just 24 hours earlier. The 21-year-old victim in that case survived.

New Haven Public Schools suspended bus stops along that stretch of Congress, instead requiring parents to drop off and pick up students in person.

“My advice to all you kids out there, change your life or you won’t have one,” Harris said.

No arrests have been made.
