East Haven Police caught a man they say fled from them in a stolen car and on foot.
An officer, whose cruiser was equipped with a license plate reader, was alerted as the suspect drove by him with the vehicle on the Main Street.
After confirming the accuracy of the alert with dispatch, the officer initiated a traffic stop on at the intersection of Hemingway and Pennsylvania avenues.
Police say that’s when 19-year-old Angel Dejesus-Ortiz fled as officers approached the vehicle.
Dejesus-Ortiz ended up striking a curb in the area of Tuttle Elementary School on Prospect Road. Police say he exited the vehicle and fled on foot behind the school, leading police over fences and backyards. Officers lost sight of him briefly during a foot chase, but was taken into custody shortly after the pursuit on Thompson Avenue.
Dejesus-Ortiz, of New Haven, was arrested on numerous charges, ranging from larceny to reckless endangerment.
He was held on a $10,000 bond.
