MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A threat on Facebook sends police departments across the country into high alert including one in Meriden.

Police say an officer was posted at Lincoln Middle school this morning just to calm fears. Around 7:30 last night police found out about a possible shooting at “Lincoln School” planned for today. Investigators found it was posted from Tallahassee, Florida. According to affiliate reports across the country schools named Lincoln in Texas and Michigan also looked into this.

We spoke with a digital forsensics professor who says the registration process on Facebook makes it easier for officer to track threats down.

“It takes time obviously so it’s not a thing you can solve in 5 minutes, but within a few days most of the time they’re able to figure out who posted one of those threats or bully activities,” said Asst. Professor Frank Breitinger who teaches cyber forensics at the University of New Haven.

Police say they only staffed up security to alleviate any fears. They say there is no evidence to believe a threat was directed toward Lincoln Middle School in Meriden.
