Hamden man shot and killed his own dog

New Haven

Hamden police are investigating a case after a person shot and killed his dog on Sunday in Hamden.

According to police, they responded to a call after a report of shots fired.

Police say Walter Haller was walking his dog in a park near Brook Street and Wintergreen Avenue in Hamden.

Another person was walking with three children and their dog.

Police said Haller’s pitbull attacked the other dog.

He told officers he thought his dog might hurt the children, so he took out his gun and shot it.
