New Haven

Mayor Curt Leng of Hamden has issued a statement regarding a recent video that has gone viral. The incident is in relation to a verbal argument caught on video in an East Haven supermarket late Friday night.

According to accusations, a video has been posted to social media showing a female Hamden school district employee yelling racial slurs at an African American man. The video also appears to show the woman spitting at the man.

The Hamden Superintendent of Schools  says due to the woman’s children being present, the Hamden Board of Education has filed a report with the Department of Children and Families.  The Superintendent says she has also been separated from her service in the Hamden school system.

Mayor Leng released the following statement concerning the alleged incident:

“What I saw was vile and shocking. While I am disgusted and disheartened seeing such hateful behavior, wildly unacceptable anywhere, I am thankful for the swift and effective actions taken by our school system to address this head on and make clear that hate and violence will not be tolerated”

East Haven Police say they have not made any arrests in conjunction with this incident. The incident remains under investigation.
