NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Hundreds of kids are getting ready to go back to school.
On Tuesday, 600 kids picked up free backpacks, thanks to the New Haven Housing Authority. The backpacks are stocked with school essentials, like pencils, crayons and notebooks.
“This is our third annual back to school fair that is part of our Elm City Believes initiative. It’s letting the youth in the community know we believe in them. We wanna jump start their education,” said Patrick Morganelli with the New Haven Housing Authority.
The back to school fair also featured some special visitors and kids had a chance to climb in emergency vehicles, talk to police officers and get to know their K9 coworkers.
