Illegal parking crackdown begins at West Haven train station

New Haven

The state DOT is beginning its crackdown on illegal parkers at the West Haven train station.

Starting on Monday, drivers who do not display a valid parking permit or pay the $6-dollar parking fee could be fined $25 for illegally parking in the West Haven train station’s parking lot.

Paid parking will be enforced Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Repeat violators could potentially be towed.

According to the DOT, Connecticut hired a private contractor to hand out tickets, and that private contractor is hiring West Haven police to write out the tickets.

Officials say as soon as signs were put up for paid parking, dozens started buying parking permits.
