A shooting investigation at a New Haven apartment complex led to two New Haven schools being placed into lockdown midday Tuesday.

Police confirm to News 8 that shortly after 11:00 a.m., a person was shot outside of an apartment complex, near 595 Sherman Parkway. The victim, a 38-year-old man from West Haven, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper leg. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.

The close proximity of the shooting caused Hillhouse High School as well as the Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Learning Center to be placed on lockdown late Tuesday morning. Both lockdowns were lifted just before 12 noon.

Notification letters about this incident were sent to the Hillhouse High School and Dr. Mayo Early Learning Center parents and community.

New Haven Police are continuing their investigation into the Sherman Parkway shooting. If you witnessed this shooting, or have any information that could help officers in their investigation, you’re asked to call New Haven police at 203-946-6304.
