WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Waterbury police identified and arrested a suspect in a homicide on Robbins Street.

The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Derrick Johnson of Waterbury, was taken into custody on Friday and charged with murder, criminal use of a weapon, illegal transfer of a pistol/revolver, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, and risk of injury to a child.

Johnson is being held by the Waterbury Police Department on a $2 million bond.

His charges follow a homicide on Thursday at a multi-family home.

Police were sent at about 7:20 p.m. to 137 Robbins St. on Thursday after hearing that a person had been shot, according to authorities. The man was found in a common area.

He was pronounced dead shortly after officers arrived.

On Friday, police identified the victim as 35-year-old Edward Bosompra of Waterbury.

Police said they determined that Bosompra was involved in an altercation with another known male in the common area of the home. According to police, the altercation escalated in resulted in a shooting.
