NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – A man was killed, and a woman was wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning in New Haven, according to police — less than four hours after police made a safety plan to protect the woman.
The shooting occurred in the area of Shelton Avenue and Hazel Street, according to police.
Officers were called to the area at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday about a domestic dispute and were unable to immediately find the man involved, according to police. Officials then made a safety plan for the victim.
Then, at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, police learned about gunfire in the area. The woman who had reported the incident the previous day was shot, along with the 54-year-old man police had been searching for, according to officials.
The man, identified by police as Christopher Garvin, died. The woman remains in critical condition.
Police have not released further information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Chief of Police is expected to provide an update on the shooting following a swearing-in ceremony on Monday at 2 p.m.
