A Naugatuck police detective is set to make a big climb for a good cause.
Detective Tom McGarvey will join a group of law enforcement officers from around Connecticut to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and raise more than $100,000 for Special Olympics Connecticut.
The team is planning on climbing the mountain in February 2020.

Det. McGarvey is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He has set a personal fundraising goal of $10,000.
Officials said that money generated from fundraising efforts will benefit athletes in Connecticut and the Special Olympics program as a whole.
