A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Saturday morning on a new botanical garden dedicated to the victims of gun violence. 

It happened on Valley Street in New Haven.

The New Haven Botanical Healing Garden will include a pathway with the dates and ages of victims of homicides from firearms in the Elm City, illustrating the magnitude of the problem locally.

It’s estimated that 40,000 people were killed by guns in the United States in 2017. 

Nearly 200 of them were killed here in Connecticut

Family members can choose to also include the names of the victims.
