New Haven officials take part in active shooter training exercise

New Haven

New Haven officials went through the steps on Wednesday on how to improve their reactions in the event of a shooting at a local school.

First responders from the police and fire departments, 911 operators and school leaders were on hand for the training exercise at the fire academy.

They went through minute by minute on how to react to an active shooter situation.

“Not in every city that there is such a coordinated effort of people who are truly committed to working on safety and efficiency and I am honored to serve with you,” New Haven Superintendent Dr. Carol Birks.

Mayor Toni Harp said it’s important that cities recognize what can happen in this day and age and prepare accordingly.
