News 8’s Forecast to End Hunger Food Drive

New Haven

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — News 8 is proud to team up with the Connecticut Food Bank and Bank of America to make our Forecast to End Hunger come true.

Join us on Saturday, November 18th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Shop Rite of East Haven, located at 745 Foxon Road. Many of your favorite News 8 personalities will be there to meet you and accept your food donations to benefit the Connecticut Food Bank, which feeds local families across the state all-year long.

You can help Connecticut families that need a little help this Thanksgiving by donating items such as:

  • Frozen Turkeys (8-10 pound turkeys are the most needed)
  • Canned Ham, Chicken, and Salmon
  • $10 grocery store gift cards
  • Dry Stuffing Mix (box or package)
  • Canned Vegetables with no added salt
  • Canned Fruit in 100% fruit juice
  • Canned or instant potatoes
  • Bottled or canned gravy
  • Dry or canned beans with reduced sodium
  • Rice (brown or white)

Monetary donations are also happily accepted too. The Connecticut Food Bank says they can create two meals for every dollar donated.

Nationally, a shocking 1 in 8 Americans-more than 41 million people-struggle with hunger. Here in Connecticut, nearly half a million residents struggle with hunger and more than 127,000 children are food insecure. Food security is a fundamental first step toward economic mobility and empowerment.

You can make a big difference in the lives of families in Connecticut that need a helping hand this holiday season. We hope to see you at the Shop Rite of East Haven for the Forecast to End Hunger!

Also – if you can’t make it to East Haven, the ShopRite Store in Fairfield will have a food drive at their store on 11/18 from 9am – 11am.
