Officials: Man fatally struck by Amtrak train in Guilford

Officials said a man was fatally struck by a train in Guilford on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, officials learned of a person being hit by an Amtrak train around 12:12 p.m.

Police said the 55-year-old was trespassing when he was struck by a southbound work train. Authorities said there were no passengers on that train.

The man was located on the tracks along Route 146 south of Sachem Head Road.

At this time, it is not known why he was on the trains.

The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.

Shore Line East service was suspended but it is now back operating close to schedule.
