PD: 18-year-old woman suffers gunshot wound on State Street in New Haven

New Haven Police officers are investigating a shooting on State Street late Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said an 18-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the area of 1300 State Street.

According to police, road closures are active due to police activity.

Authorities added that there are routes and detours from State Street at Ferry Street in New Haven to State Street and the Hamden town line.

The public can expect heavy traffic congestion and should avoid driving in this area for the time being.  

Police added that the victim’s wound is not expected to be life-threatening.
