A Hamden man is facing charges after his actions allegedly led to a baby falling from a cart and three officers sustaining injuries.

According to officials, on Monday around 6:00 p.m., units responded to Campus Laundry at 16 Fairview Avenue after receiving a report of threatening.

Police said an investigation revealed that a woman was doing laundry with her children when 18-year-old Xavier Brathwaite began using profanity. He then allegedly pushed a metal cart with the woman’s 10-month-old child in it.

The child then fell from the cart and hit her head.

When police attempted to arrest Brathwaite, he allegedly became aggressive and started to fight.

He was eventually arrested and charged with assault of a police officer, assault, and other related charges.

He was detained on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court on April 15th.

A 17-year-old Hamden resident, who was a friend of Brathwaite’s and attempted to pull him away from the officers, was charged with interfering with a police officer.

Three officers were hurt with one sustaining a separated shoulder.

Hamden Fire Rescue provided medical treatment to the baby.
