Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle in West Haven

New Haven

Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle and pedestrian accident near Derby Avenue in West Haven on Sunday night. 

The serious motor vehicle accident took place at about 6:40 p.m. on Sunday night in the area of Derby Avenue and Forest Road. 

The initial investigation shows that the involved vehicle was traveling East on Derby Avenue in the area of Forest Road when it struck a male pedestrian. The injured pedestrian was located in the roadway nearby. 

The vehicle left the scene before emergency services got on scene. 

The pedestrian involved was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital due to his injuries and later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The identity of the person struck is not being released at this time. 

The West Haven Police Department’s Major Accident Squad (M.A.S.) was called in to complete the investigation.

West Haven Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who can assist in identification of the evading operator/vehicle to call our traffic division at 203-937-3925.
