A family is mourning after a mother was gunned down in New Haven on Thursday night.

Police said 28-year-old Tyekqua Nesbitt was shot and killed while she was sitting in her car, with her 6 and 11-year-old children.

The shooting happened Wilmont Road and Wintergreen Avenue, right near West Rock Ridge State Park

Detectives believe Nesbitt was targeted by the shooter.

Nesbitt’s murder is now linked to the shooting of her best friend on May 7, on the 161 block of Henry Street.

That victim survived, and called police to tell them that the shooter was her husband, 41-year-old Tramaine Poole.

A warrant for Poole’s arrest is currently out. U.S. Marshals are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

He is about 5’11” tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has short dark-brown hair, brown eyes and is clean-shaven. He has tattoos on both arms. He may be wearing a disguise, including a dreadlock wig.

“From our standpoint, this is our public enemy number one,” said Chief Anthony Campbell.

New Haven police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting, or anyone with information to call them at 203-946-6316 or text “NHPD plus your message” to 274637 (CRIMES). Calls can be made anonymously.
