WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — A Waterbury woman died five days after she was shot in the head on Eastern Avenue, according to police.
Police said 49-year-old Becky Switzer was shot in the head just before 1 a.m. on June 15 at an apartment complex on Eastern Avenue. She had been in critical condition until she died from her injuries on June 20.
One witness told News 8 that she heard three gunshots and screaming.
“I saw four ambulances,” said the witness, who asked not to be identified. “Then came a whole bunch of cops.”
Jessica Shaw, a neighbor, said that the apartment complex is a quiet community.
“It’s very surprising to know that it’s close to home, and there are kids up here,” she said. “It makes us scared for our kids.”
Shaw said she knows the victim.
“She’s very nice,” Shaw said. “She doesn’t bother nobody. She loves my daughter. She’s normally outside, doing her furniture, cleaning — but she doesn’t bother nobody up here.”
Police went door-to-door on Thursday interviewing witnesses and checking for surveillance video.
Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call the Detective Bureau at (203) 574-6941.
