WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– The search for the reported missing swimmer in West Haven has been called off, according to officials.
West Haven police tell News 8 the search has been called off due to the fact that there are no reports of a missing person, abandoned vehicle, or any indication to lead to belief there is a missing person in the water.
Emergency responders were sent out to the area of Dawson Avenue Beach Sunday afternoon on the report of the missing swimmer after lifeguards apparently noticed a swimmer about 600-800 feet off shore, which they then lost sight of the swimmer.
Crews searched 42 square miles before officially calling off the search at 10 PM.
