Kevin Donovan was inside his Danenberg Place home when he heard a crash next door.

“I opened the side door to see if they were alright when that tree came down. I couldn’t get out so I came out the front door,” he said.

The powerful storm brought the two trees down, ripping up the road and driveway in the process. Donovan says the trees are at least 60 years old.

“Nobody was hurt, thank God,” he said.

Fire Chief Steve Scafariello says United Illuminating will shut down the power for the two damaged homes, but it could have been much worse.

“It’s amazing what happened here. It lifted the concrete, the sidewalk. Just two trees like that, it must have been some kind of burst.”
