MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A tractor-trailer drove off an overpass and ended up on Route 1 in Milford Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the Boston Post Road in the area of Exit 39 for a tractor-trailer that was overturned.

State police said a Honda and Toyota were behind a tractor-trailer truck in the right lane on I-95 southbound, north of Exit 39 B, when the Toyota attempted to overtake the Honda using the right shoulder lane. During the attempt to pass the Honda, the Toyota sideswiped the car and struck the back of the truck.

Due to the rear-end collision, state police said the truck lost control and rolled over the metal beam guard rail on the right shoulder. The truck came to a controlled resting position upside down on Route 1.

The truck driver, as well as the Toyota driver, were transported to Bridgeport Hospital for minor injuries.

State police said the driver of the Toyota, Deviana Alisha Robinson, was issued an infraction for failure to maintain a proper lane and failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart resulting in a motor vehicle accident.

The incident is under investigation.
