NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Two people are dead after a shooting on Winthrop Avenue and Goffe Street in New Haven on Saturday morning.
Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation of nine gunshots, plus multiple 911 calls around 8 a.m. They responded and found two gunshot victims in a parked Acura MDX.
The driver was pronounced dead on scene. The passenger was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital and pronounced dead.
The passenger has been identified as 27-year-old Jonathan Garcia of New Haven.
Police arrested a person of interest who is currently on parole. Both victims appear to have been targeted and there is no threat to the public.
“I detest this senseless loss of life through gun violence. Although we are unable to prevent all crimes, we will devote every resource necessary to bring justice to the victim’s families,” said New Haven police chief Karl Jacobson.
