Two shot on Howard Avenue in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men were shot on Howard Avenue in New Haven Saturday night.

A New Haven Police spokesman says the two adults were shot prior to 10 p.m. on Howard Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets.

Police say the injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.

Howard was closed between 1st and 4th Streets for the investigation.

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker was at the scene Saturday night and commented on how these incidents impact the community.

“It’s a really tough time,” he said. “It’s been a tough year for the city, and many cities across the nation are experiencing an uptick in violence. We’re working very hard to address the problem. There’s a lot of trauma that comes with this. I just spoke with a grandma and her 10-year-old, who are in the car waiting to get back into their home because the street is blocked off. People are really struggling right now. We’re here, we’re working hard, and as a community, we’re going to overcome this.”

There are no suspects at this time.
