Victim identified, investigation continues into New Haven fire that left 2 dead

New Haven

Investigators gave an update on the fire that left two people dead over the weekend in New Haven

Shirley Reed identified one of the fire victims who died as her son, 37-year-old Corey Reed.

A second man also died. His name was being withheld on Monday pending an autopsy.

News 8 also learned investigators were looking into whether this home was illegally operating as a rooming house.

Another big question was whether the house had smoke alarms.

“The answer is yes, there are smoke alarms present in the building and throughout the building, but it’s part of the investigation whether they were effective or not working,” Chief John Alston said.
