Wallingford police officer suspended after punching handcuffed man

New Haven

A Wallingford police officer punched a handcuffed man, and it was all caught on camera.

Officials said Officer Joseph Smith was suspended for two weeks for violating Wallingford’s use of force policy.

Police were called to Ward Street after a physical altercation report back in June.

They arrested Gary King. He then struggled with officers before he was punched.

Connecticut State Police reviewed the incident, saying that the use of force was not a criminal act.
