Waterbury man accused of killing fiancee in court Tuesday

New Haven

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — The Waterbury man accused of killing his fiancee and then stuffing her body in a closet went before a judge Tuesday, and showed no emotion.

The judge kept Adam Plaeger‘s bond set at one million dollars. Police found Melanie Hueberger‘s body Sunday, after they received a call from her roommates.

Deputy Chief with the Waterbury Police Department, Fred Spagnolo said, “The complainant called and said there was an odor coming from the apartment and they believed there was a dead body in the apartment.”

One of Hueberger’s roommates, Mike Juliano, said Plaeger admitted to killing his fiancé.

“I asked him what the smell was and he said it was Melanie. I said what do you mean it is Melaine? He said I killed Melanie. I said, where? He told me that she was in the closet.”

Police say after killing Hueberger, Plaeger put his fiancee’s body in the closet, and nailed it shut. Spagnolo added, “The body was covered with clothing upon police arrival.”Original Story: Woman’s body found stuffed in closet in Waterbury home

Roommate Katie Juliano said, “He wrapped her in a blanket. He had tape over her mouth and buried here under a pile of dirty clothes.”

Police said the couple had a rocky relationship. Deputy Chief Spagnolo added that the couple had had several recent arguments.

What we learned through our investigation is that Hueberger and Plaeger weren’t getting along too well for several days prior. There was some sort of domestic disputes between the two of them. At one point during that argument Plaeger choked Hueberger to death.”

Police are still waiting for the autopsy to determine when Hueberger was killed. The judge said Plaeger is on suicide watch. The next court date is scheduled for July 13th.
