Waterbury resident charged with drugs trafficking and gun possession

Dominican Republic citizen residing in Waterbury has been charged with drugs trafficking and gun possession crimes.

On Wednesday, a New Haven federal grand jury charged Daniel Jimenez De la Cruz, 33, with fentanyl distribution and firearm possession offenses.

Jimenez is a citizen of the Dominican Republic who was last residing in Waterbury. He was arrested in September 2018 after the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) executed a search warrant at his Waterbury residence. Officials said found a trash bag containing fentanyl and a loaded .38 caliber revolver outside of his bedroom window at the search.

Jimenez has been detained since his arrest.

The DEA is investigating this matter.
