Staff and students at Wolcott High School and at Wolcott Middle School entered into a shelter in place on Wednesday due to a rumor going around.

According to Principal Walt Drewry, a rumor was started at the high school regarding a potentially armed person outside.

Around 9:00 a.m., Wolcott police were notified and the shelter in place measure was initiated.

Following an investigation, officials learned that a student overheard that the school was going to have a practice lockdown drill later in the day.

The student allegedly posted about the drill on social media, saying it was going to be done because of an armed person outside of the building.

Police were able to determine that there was no credible threat.
