NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — Fire crews were on the scene of a 3rd alarm fire at a home in the Yanic section of Norwich.
The fire that broke out just after noon and occurred on Otro-Bando Avenue. Fire officials report that the fire started in the kitchen and shot through the roof of the home.
Yanic and Norwich fire departments are on scene. One firefighter has been taken to the hospital with injuries. He is expected to be OK.
Several families were displaced, and three pets are reported to have died in the blaze.
“It’s always tough no matter what time of year to see people lose all of their belongings,” Yanic FD Deputy Fire Chief Bernard J. Herz told News 8.
Herz went on to say that, though it is devastating for the families, the Red Cross is on scene and neighbors are already bringing supplies for the families.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
